Projects at Mdzananda Animal Clinic..
Mobile Clinics

Khayelitsha covers a vast area, and not everyone is able to reach our permanent clinic facilities when their pets need help. To help these owners Mdzananda has established mobile clinics that go to the outlying communities and provide services such as dipping, deworming and vaccinating of dogs and cats.

Mobiles are conducted every weekday afternoon and work on a strict roster, so communities know exactly when to expect us.

Staff working mobiles also go door-to-door educating the community on pet care and identifying pets for sterilisation. Sick pets or pets due for sterilisation are transported back to Mdzananda's home base for hospitalisation and treatment.

Spayathon

A key part of the work at Mdzananda Animal Clinic is to encourage pet owners to agree to allow the professional sterilisation of their dogs and cats. Every pet owner who brings their dog or cat to the clinic is encouraged to allow us to sterilise their pet, and Mdzananda's staff go door-to-door when running mobile clinics educating owners on the need for "family planning".

Sterilisations are carried out at Mdzananda three times a week, and once every three months we hold sterilisation marathons.

During these "spayathons" a team of volunteer veterinarians give of their time to sterilise up to 100 dogs and cats in a single day. Mdzananda's sterilisation drives try to focus on a single area at a time to make an impact on a localised population of dogs. Sterilisation of dogs and cats is entirely free of charge.

Kennel Building

Mdzananda Animal Clinic likes to have fun too! We're proud to have the support of some members of corporate South Africa who have generously adopted us as part of their social outreach portfolios. From time to time we organise "kennel building" events for their staff that get together with the Mdzananda community to build and decorate kennels from scrap wood.

These events are always tremendous team building events for our supporters - and the animals benefit too, as the kennels are then given to deserving pet owners in the community.

If you'd like to adopt Mdzananda and have your own kennel building day, please contact: Mdzananda Animal Clinic

Sustainable Gardening

Mdzananda Animal Clinic has its own vegetable garden which keeps our staff in fresh veggies, and provides a nutritious soup-based meal for them during the cold and rainy winter months here in the Western Cape.

We always need seedlings, seeds and equipment so if anyone is able to help please contact: Mdzananda Animal Clinic
