Saved by Good Samaritan

Found with intestines dangling from his body, this little dog was picked up by a Good Samaritan from the streets of Mitchell's Plain and rushed to Mdzananda. With tears welling up in her eyes, this good lady told us what she had found - a small dog whose stomach was ripped open and whose insides were hanging out.

Our staff rushed him out of the car and straight to our theatre. Dr Brian and our theatre staff cleaned the intestines which were covered in grass and sand. They then placed everything back into the abdomen and flushed the abdomen. Chris (named after his rescuer Christine) was treated for shock and pain and then left with a comfortable blanket to recover.

We weren’t sure if he would make it. There was a 50/50 chance. No one knows what caused the injury but it looked like he had either been stabbed or impaled by a sharp object.

The next morning Chris was sitting up. He was looking good and, even though we don’t want to be too hopeful, it looks like he will survive.

Chris will be with us for quite some time and, once he is ready, will need a new home. If you could make a donation towards his care we would be so grateful. Bank Details Mdzananda Animal Clinic, Standard Bank, Account: 075595710, Branch Code 025009, Reference: Christ + Your Name
