  • The adoption fee is R600. This includes vaccinations and dewormers to date of adoption and sterilisation at 6 months of age at our clinic.

Why pay an adoption fee?

There are many costs involved in looking after an abandoned pet before finding him/her a new home. On average pets stays with us for 2 months before a new home is found. In the first month alone, our cost per pet is R1565. Most pets stay much longer. Some even for over a year. Your adoption goes towards covering some of these costs.

First month's costs:

  • Sterilisation - R350 (our cost price excluding our veterinarian's time)

  • 1st Vaccinations - R50

  • 1st Dewormers - R25

  • 1st Flea and tick treatments - R40

  • Food for a month - R300

  • Average cost per pet for medical care, housing, electricity, water, staff involved - R800

To foster

Our organisation is predominantly a veterinary clinic and our shelter unit is very small and can only house 15 dogs and 15 cats at a time. When our shelter is full we cannot take more pets in and direct people to other welfare organisations. Placing pets in foster homes allows us to have space available at our shelter facility to help more abandoned pets.

To become a foster

  • Please contact admin@mdzananda.co.za / info@mdzananda.co.za / 082 251 0554 / 021 367 6001

  • Our pre-approval questionnaire will be gone through with you via the phone

  • A home check will be done to ensure your home is a good fit for your selected furry friend

Requirements to foster

  • Need access to transport (if a pet is in a medical emergency you need to have transportation to get the pet to help)

  • Have a secure and fenced property

  • Provide food for the pet for the duration of his/her stay with you

  • If the pet requires medical attention / updates of vaccinations, the pet needs to be brought to Mdzananda Animal Clinic for treatment (if you wish to take the pet to a private veterinary clinic, this will be at your own cost)

  • Take lots of videos and photographs to share with us for promotion

  • Help to promote the pet to find a forever home
